What does it mean to have a job when you have a disability?
For many people, a job is more than a paycheck. It’s a source of purpose, routine, confidence, and independence. Yet finding and maintaining employment can be especially challenging for individuals with disabilities, often requiring accommodations, training, and support that many employers are not equipped to provide.
Did you know that working-age adults with disabilities are unemployed at more than twice the rate of people without disabilities?
At Achieve Central Virginia, our mission is to help adults with disabilities achieve greater independence by providing opportunities to learn, grow, and work.
We believe everyone deserves the chance to build a meaningful career, and we are committed to creating pathways to long-term employment, professional development, and economic independence.
One of the most important ways we do that is through our participation in the AbilityOne® Program, which supports our corrugated box manufacturing operation. Through federal contracting opportunities, AbilityOne creates meaningful jobs for people with disabilities while providing essential products and services to government agencies and the U.S. military. Through these contracts, Achieve employees produce hundreds of thousands of corrugated boxes each year.
Achieve employees also support local businesses through our Subcontract division, completing production and assembly work for companies throughout the Lynchburg region. These opportunities provide meaningful work for individuals who may not qualify for our corrugated box manufacturing program while helping fund services that support our mission. The more contract opportunities we secure, the more individuals we can employ and support.
During National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we celebrate the talents, contributions, and achievements of workers with disabilities. Their skills strengthen our workforce, enrich our communities, and demonstrate that everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Every contract and partnership helps create meaningful employment opportunities that enable adults with disabilities to gain skills, build confidence, and achieve greater independence.
