Achieve of Central Virginia
Formerly Lynchburg Sheltered Industries
At Achieve we assist people with disabilities or disadvantages achieve greater independence and self-esteem through structured programs of activities, adult day support, vocational training and employment services.
In 1963, a group of parents got together with one goal in mind: to give their adult children a safe place to work and participate in the local community. The first group of its kind in this area, the parents approached the local Junior League chapter for support in finding an appropriate place to meet and launch: a church, Lynchburg Sheltered Industries was officially born.
Since that time, we have seen a lot of regulation changes, as well as changes within the communities we serve. We recognized these shifts and changes as necessary moves to better serve our local individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, but we still kept our original goal in mind: To help adults with disabilities find a safe place to work.
